Mr. Kevin Roberts is the CEO of Iscrap360, LLC. He started operating the business informally in 2018 but officially registered the business in May 2019. Iscrap360 is based in Montclair, Essex County, NJ. Iscrap360 is a business in one of the leading sustainability industries of recycling and exports. Mr. Roberts had previous experience in the scrap metal recycling industry for many years until he decided to start his own business. Today, Iscrap360 is leading in the industry of recycling non-ferrous scrap metals, including auto batteries, and exporting to various countries in Asia. The very first year in 2019 when he officially launched, the business earned $100,000.00 in sales.
Mr. Roberts came to the Center in February 2020 seeking assistance with various aspects of the business infrastructure, set-up financial systems, assistance with business management strategies and discuss international export trading. He already had experience and expertise with the scrap metal and auto battery recycling industry which was a great plus. Despite launching his business during the onset of the Covid19 pandemic, Mr. Roberts continued to work with his assigned counselor, Ms. Carmen Morris, who is the Center’s expert on International Trade, specifically exporting logistics and supply chain. He followed through with the recommendations they discussed, started writing his own business plan, applied for EIDL loan assistance, and implemented financial systems that he needed to operate his business successfully. He received the EIDL loan. In addition, with continued consulting of the NJSBDC at Rutgers-Newark plus his business acumen and knowledge of the scrap metal market, he managed to receive his first contract with the Department of Defense in 2022 and 2023. By February 2024, Iscrap360 had increased their revenues to over $3million.
As he continues to grow, Iscap360 has been referred to the NJSBDC Capital Team for working capital and the SBIR/STTR program to explore additional innovation funding opportunities as his business continues to grow fast. Iscrap360 continues to receive various export assistance counseling with Ms. Morris to address some of the emerging challenges that are occurring in his industry. Mr. Roberts continues to be innovative in his business, while leveraging the Center’s recommendations, advise and expertise. Today, Iscrape360 is grossing over $4.5million, truly being an exemplary small business success.
