The NJSBDC at Rutgers Newark 2016 Business Continuity Conference is designed to give small businesses, strategies and action plans to help them remain operational during and after any business disruption due to weather, fire, terrorist and/or cyber-attacks or even the loss of a key decision maker in the business. Dr Tendai Ndoro
Dr. Tendai Ndoro
Dr. Tendai Ndoro is a woman of integrity, perseverance, ambition and courage who to lives by examples in excellence. As a teacher, mentor and entrepreneur, her ambitions are infectious and motivate others to willingly give more to the task or challenge at hand, bringing the best in others. With the belief that only through education can a girl child expand the options of her universe, Dr. Ndoro’s mission has been to empower women and girls to be self sufficient leaders of their communities and aspire to reach their dreams through learning, adopting positive life skills; engaging in sustainable entrepreneurship, support public service and volunteerism.
As CEO of her company EDCTrainers, LLC (dba SLIPPA – Strategy Leadership Institute in Private & Public Affairs) founded in 1990, she has engaged in various global projects in Africa. Projects included the of training West African scholars in education who were alumni of the African American Institute about leadership and public sector strategic management conducted in the Gambia, West Africa. She has helped 220 women entrepreneurs in Zvishavene, Zimbabwe with small business management of their cooperative entrepreneurial seed projects funded by Oxfam providing them with business knowledge and tools that helped them to reinvest back into their families to alleviate poverty as well as support the education of their children; Under projects funded by the USAID, African Development Bank, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and UNDP, Dr. Ndoro has conducted train-the-trainer; capacity building and manpower development training for NGO leaders, Bankers, business decision makers, management consultants, and economic/community development specialists in Zimbabwe & Uganda. Through the Association of Enterprise Opportunities (AEO), Dr. Ndoro has provided capacity building training to economic & community development specialist in West Virginia, New Orleans, LA and Essex County, New Jersey. As Director at Rutgers University/Rutgers Business School, she is responsible for small business development in Essex County. Through an initiative with Ernest & Young she is helping Rutgers Business School accounting students gain experiential learning with small businesses in New Jersey. In collaboration with various private/public partnerships she has taught small business development to Prudential Young Entrepreneurs; the NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) and RU Ready for Work high school students in Newark, NJ as well as taught entrepreneurship to young girl scouts in Essex and Hudson Counties.
Whether she is working globally as CEO of EDCTrainers, LLC/SLIPPA or as a public sector economic development expert, in the United States, she has continued to support self-sufficiency through entrepreneurship, leadership and strategic management. In the last 2 years, she has participated as a focus group expert for the Obama Administration through the Small Business Administration, US Commercial Services, Overseas Private Investment Council (OPIC), and White House Entrepreneurship Summit, Minority Business Development Agency and various local state and local government entities. In 2012, Dr. Ndoro is recognized for NJ Garden State Woman of the Year – Global Impact Award and Minority Enterprise Advocate’s 50 Women of Power in Business for her work with SLIPPA and Rutgers Business School SBDC respectively; In 2011 she received the Rutgers- Newark SBDC Women Entrepreneurship Network award for promoting women businesses in New Jersey and in 2010 she received the US Commercial Services International Trade award for supporting small businesses trade in the City of Newark, NJ. Dr. Ndoro’s skills in private and public sector organization & program development; strategic management and performance measurements enable her to manage for efficiency and effectiveness, with results that have positive impact on the lives of people and communities she serves. Her demonstrated extensive experiences as a business woman and public sector administrator allow her to adapt and overcome restrictive working environments producing sustainable outcomes. Dr. Ndoro truly brightens the corner where ever she is!

Prior to owning his own business, Roy had a thirty-year career with IBM. One of the positions he held was Management Development instructor, responsible for learning programs for new experienced first and second-line managers. He also served a term as the Regional Training Manager for his division. He was Equal Opportunity programs manager for his division in the Midwest, responsible for keeping the branch offices in eight states audit-ready. Other assignments in his career were: Branch Office Operation Manager; staff assistant for the division medical director; completing a national health survey for copier repair persons; IBM Gallery Activities Manager responsible for hiring art educators and liaison for UN wives’ visiting the gallery; and overseeing security and physical assets.

Angela Harrington
Ms. Harrington serves on the Berkeley College Strategic Planning Committee and co-chairs its Committee on Identity and Reputation. She also oversees Berkeley’s involvement in the Downtown Brooklyn Higher Education Consortium and other external initiatives.
Prior to joining Berkeley College in October 2013, Ms. Harrington was Chief Community Relations Officer at Bergen Community College, where she developed marketing and public relations initiatives that drove enrollment growth. Ms. Harrington’s prior experience also includes operating a marketing communications and public relations agency for 10 years. She served as a long-time consultant for the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers based at Rutgers University, and is the founder of Elizabeth Works, a program that helps underserved youth connect to job opportunities and a pathway to education and career training.
Ms. Harrington is an Emmy-Award winning journalist with experience in higher education, non-profit management, business, women’s issues, economic development and entrepreneurship. In 2007 she was honored by NJBIZ magazine as one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the Women’s Leadership Council at the Liberty Science Center, and serves on the Education Committee of the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey.
Ms. Harrington earned a B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey – Douglass College and an M.S. in Business Management and Organizational Development from Capella University. She is a Graduate Fellow of Lead NJ, whose mission is to educate, empower and engage talented leaders to create systemic change around New Jersey’s most challenging issues.

William Ruggles
William Ruggles
He has lived in Bergen County since 1982 and is a small business owner of Ruggles2 LLC, a management consulting firm specializing in operational excellence and organizational development. Previously, in addition to having been a manager/director of various private sector organizations, and as an adjunct professor at Stevens Institute of Technology and Essex County College, he served as the Deputy CTO for Workforce Enhancement with the State of New Jersey’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) and a member of its Executive Management Team.
He holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and holds professional certifications in Project Management (PMP), Six Sigma (CSSMBB), Lean (Kaizen Sensei), Quality (CQM), and Agile/Scrum (CSM).
Mr. Ruggles brings a diversified set of business, technology, and management skills to the NJSBDC to support existing small businesses as well as pre-venture and start-ups. In his past career, he worked in the life sciences, public health, healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices, and telecommunications industries where he gained broad-based experience in planning, budgeting, marketing, new product development, and quality assurance.
Bill is a State-Certified Disaster Response Crisis Counselor (DRCC), a Squad Leader for the Fair Lawn Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and is the Bergen-SBDC liaison for all continuity planning and disaster preparedness/recovery activities.

Mike Hompesch is a skilled Insurance Advisor with over 25 years of experience in Property and Casualty Insurance, Mike is able to analyze and provide expert advice regarding complex insurance products and issues. Mike has held multiple positions within the insurance industry including “Principal” of Crossroads Premier Insurance, Commercial Lines Manager/Partner at EA Boniakowksi Agency and in his current position as “Senior Insurance Advisor” at the John Morgan McLachlan Agency in Somerville, NJ.

BJ Dowlen, is the Founder and President of Bodyworks Enterprises, LLC. Former
partner of K-C International, one of the largest exporting companies in the United States.
In 2004, K-C International was sold to Ekman, a privately owned Swedish company. BJ remained on for 2 contracts, as the Compliance Officer, where she created all the global policies for Ekman: Hiring, Employee Handbooks, Code Of Conduct, Mentorship Programs, and Disaster Recovery Plans.
Right before leaving Ekman to focus 100% attention on Bodyworks Enterprises, BJ was wiped out by Superstorm Sandy, (house, car, possessions, office and inventory). She was able to experience first hand, the effectiveness of her Disaster Recovery Plan for the global company she was leaving, while at the same
time, needing to utilize it for the new Small Business she was just launching.
